Buying guide: Retro Gaming

Expert Verdict

The Anbernic RG CubeXX features a sharp 3.95" 720x720 1:1 IPS display and a 3800mAh battery, making it a specialized choice for retro systems that benefit from square aspect ratios. While the hardware is ergonomic and well-built, the stock Linux firmware suffers from stability issues and poor sleep mode management, often requiring custom firmware like muOS for an optimal experience.

Best For

Retro enthusiasts who prioritize a 1:1 screen for classic systems and are comfortable installing custom firmware.
